‘Twas on a dreary New Year’s Eve
\n As the shades of night came down
\n A lorry load of volunteers approached a border town
\n There were men from Dublin and from Cork
\n Fermanagh and Tyrone
\n But the leader was a Limerick man –
\n Sean South from Garryowen<\/p>\n

And as they moved along the street
\n Up to the barracks door
\n They scorned the danger they might meet
\n Their fate that lay in store
\n They were fighting for old Ireland’s cause
\n To claim their very own
\n And the foremost of that gallant band
\n Was South of Garryowen<\/p>\n

But the sergeant spoiled their daring plan

\n The Sten guns and the rifles
