\nWith the help of Johnny Walker he pushed away the war
\nAnd questions with no answers that had rattled round his head
\nHad lost their urgent clarity and were faded round the edge
\nThought tomorrow they’d again be sharp and clear
\nTonight they had been lost amongst the bar girls and the beer<\/p>\n

Ask a silly question, like why the heel we’re here
\nLearning how to live with death, suffering and fear,
\nWar’s a game for soldiers; it’s not for men like you.
\nIs there something that you have to find, or something you must prove
\nOr are you hooked upon the adrenaline
\nThat living on the edge of dying brings<\/p>\n

But here you are in Vietnam; you’re a long way from home
\nDoing what you’re paid to do, the best way that you can
\nObjectively you watch the war, never taking sides
\nAnd what you feel, what you really feel, is hidden deep inside
\nYou’re not being paid to moralize,
\nAnd anyway, a can lose his reason asking why.<\/p>\n

And if you ever get back home, you’ll never be the same
\nThe man that was before Vietnam can never be again,
\nBut in ten years when you look back to weigh and count the cost,
\nPerhaps you’ll find that Vietnam gave you back more than you lost
\nAnd from it, if you learn nothing else,
\nPerhaps you may get to know yourself.<\/p>\n
